Oral History and Beyond

Although oral history is a well-established means to record stories of marginalized communities, it is not the only method. This symposium explores storytelling from multiple perspectives, focusing on approaches and expertise drawn from Black and Indigenous cultures. For whom are stories told and why? What responsibilities do listeners have? How might storytelling cultivate care and community?

Refugee Solidarities

The Critical Refugee and Migration Studies Collective, with support from the Migration and Diaspora Studies Program, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and the Department of History at Carleton as well as the University of Toronto and the Université de Montréal hosted “Refugee Solidarities”, a one-day symposium that was held on 23 May 2024. This event included two roundtables on the topics of “Solidarity in Times of Crisis and Uncrisis” and “Solidarity in the Classroom”.
